01·The week

Can you learn to train models in a week?

Warsaw Model Trainers is a full week of events in one place, run by AI Tinkerers and Kolektyw3. Monday to Thursday you learn how small models are actually trained — evening workshops and meetups with people who do it for a living. From Friday evening you do it yourself.

We work with models up to a few gigabytes, including the Polish Bielik and PLLuM. That scale lets anyone test their skills — no background in programming or model training required, and no heavy hardware either.

Working on frontier models is one thing. The future is small, custom models: cheaper, and specialised in your field. All of us have to learn to train them for our own needs. That is what this hackathon is about.

02·The task

Can a small Polish model pass the matura?

Every team gets the same exam: matura-style questions generated from Polish Wikipedia, graded automatically, scored in points. You pick one of two ways to attack it. One board, everyone on it, prizes per track.

Track 01 · Harness

Build around the model. No training.

The model is the student. You build how it takes the exam: Polish Wikipedia to look things up in, a calculator it can call, five attempts and a vote, a second pass before the answer goes in. Not one weight changes — and the score still climbs.

Prompts and glue code. A laptop is enough.

Scored on: matura points.

The answering model has to be open — Bielik, PLLuM or another from the allowed list.

Track 02 · Fine-tuning

Train a small model to be better at the exam.

Take an open model that fits in a few gigabytes and tune it on data you build yourself — from Polish Wikipedia, from generation, from whatever works. Two size classes, so a 4 GB model competes against 4 GB models.

You get GPU credits. You leave with a model you trained.

Scored on: matura points, plus the gain over the untouched base model.

Size classes are indicative — roughly up to 4 GB and up to 8 GB; final caps in the rules.

What's a harness? Everything around the model that isn't the model — retrieval, tools, prompts, checking loops. Most AI products you use are a harness around somebody else's model. Here that work gets a score.

03·The plan

Four evenings of learning, one weekend of doing

The week and the hackathon both run at Kolektyw3, Koszykowa 54. Come for the whole week or drop in for a single evening — the hackathon is open to anyone who shows up on Friday.

Part of the week

Love, LLMs and Robots runs September 21–27, 2026 — this hackathon and Alien Bazaar, at two venues.
